Mentor_Mentee (TG) Scheme

 

I. Objectives of Mentor-mentee scheme (TG scheme):-

• To familiarize student with the environment and culture of the  department

• Help students to find solutions for their personal, career, and academic challenges

• Encourage  moral and professional values  for desired career paths

• Motivate  for the academic achievements

II.Mentoring system to help at individual level

The department has mentor-mentee scheme and implemented for all years of the program under study.  It helps to motivate and improve academic performance and skill sets for overall well-being of the students. Mentors help students to improve their academic performance, attendance, and internal exam scores, along with career opportunities. Mentoring provides students emotional and instrumental support, guidance, encouragement and better environment in department. Students are benefited by developing the interpersonal relationships with students, faculty, and can positively impact their persistence and academic achievements. A group of 15-20 students is allocated to a mentor. The same mentor continued with the students for entire duration of the program.

The mechanism of mentor-mentee (Teacher Guardian) system is shown in Fig. 1

III. Roles and responsibilities of Mentor (Teacher Guardian )

The main purpose of mentor–mentee (Teacher guardian) scheme is to monitor the performance of the students regarding their academic and professional development.

Responsibilities of a mentor:

· Mentor helps students with academic and personal guidance, and act as a bridge between students and the college administration.

· Help students to set career goals and participate in extracurricular activities.

· Provide online resources and remote learning opportunities.

· Guides regarding educational and industrial visits, guest lectures, and open book examinations.

· Identifies the shortcomings with respect to punctuality, attendance, academic performance, skills and competencies etc.

· Do counseling of students along with parents regarding performance

· Encourages the students to participate in co-curricular, extra-curricular and other professional activities.

· Maintains all records of students in the standard format provided.

· If student remains absent for continuous three lectures then teacher guardian will bring it to notice of respective class teacher & then to the HoD.

· Send letters regarding performance and attendance to parents every month.

· Give recommendation regarding the grant of term to the HoD through class teacher at the end of semester.

· This document has to be signed by the mentor(Teacher guardian) and then submit it to the HoD. at the end of the semester.

III. Outcome: This helps students to develop positive attitude, improve their social skill and also achieve set goals for the future. In general, it is observed that the mentor –mentee scheme adopted by the department is proven to be effective with respect to : Improvement in students’ attendance, academic performance, technical skills, personality development and career advancement of each student.
